A Surprise Wedding

A Surprise Wedding

11/21/2022

We love working with brides, but in this case, we got the call from the groom-to-be and his mom as they planned a special surprise- read below in the bride’s own words.
Hello!
I just want to say thank you so much for the most beautiful flowers! My friend walks past your store every morning and recommended it to my husband.
I heard that you were on the phone to his mother for an hour, and she said how lovely and helpful you and the team were. Being a creative, I'm super particular and I don't know how you created a collection of flowers that were so reflective of my style - Stunning!
Here is our little story:

Daniel and I live in the East Village and fell in love right before the pandemic. We're best friends, so we had talked about getting married and keeping it small, and then later doing a big party with friends and family. We had planned to go to the courthouse sometime in December after getting engaged, but I didn’t know when that would be.

Saturday before going out to dinner he suggested we have a drink on the roof, the last time before it gets too cold. He got down on one knee and of course I said yes! We must have been up there for 15 minutes enjoying the moment. When we came down I opened the door to the apartment, our family and closest friends were all crammed in there, and yelled “Congratulations!” They had decorated and stuck some amazing photos up on the wall, it was the best surprise to have them all there for this moment! As people had flown in from different places, Daniel quickly said “I've also planned a surprise ceremony—we’re getting married tomorrow on Governors Island!” This was our favorite place, the place where we had so many early dates and wonderful memories.

Fast forward twelve hours, we’re getting onto the ferry. Daniel’s mum had been on the phone with Élan Flower and she had said how helpful and lovely they were. She showed them to me, a bouquet, boutonniere and cake topper. There was so much detail, textures and an ombre of rose - it was a piece of art!

We get to the island and his brothers, already there, have three Surrey Bikes waiting. We all hopped in and biked to the path leading to Outlook Hill, with the view of Manhattan and the Statue. We hit play on the vintage boom box and listened to our favorite songs as we slowly made our way to the top of the hill. We took a moment to appreciate the view. His youngest brother had secretly gotten ordained weeks prior, we stood together, his brother Jacob read our love story, in his words, aloud and the rings were exchanged. We popped champagne right there and then, and celebrated. It was such a perfect moment.

Daniel had thought of everything, every detail, even down to the La Croix cans for the back of the bike. We pedaled back to the ferry, where we had a quick glass of champagne and a little photo op. We took everyone to our local brunch spot at POST in the East Village. We sat outside on the patio and ate, laughed, told stories and drank champagne cocktails. The day ended back where it started, in our apartment, playing cards and eating cake with our loved ones.

To top it all off, many of the gorgeous pictures from that day were captured by our photographer Rachel Rodgers.

Please thank your team, I will be coming back to Elan Flowers for the big Wedding party next year!

        Sincerely,

        Pippa & Daniel
